Stephill Generators Ltd was established in 1985 in a modest industrial unit in Peckham south-east London, initially manufacturing a range of petrol and diesel generators based around the preferred industry standard combination of the time, consisting of Honda/Lister-Petter engines and Markon alternators. Finding early success in a hire market that was rapidly growing and hungry for robust, quality portable power, Stephill quickly outgrew the original premises and moved to larger Peckham based premises. Continued steady growth led to the opening of a second manufacturing operation in 1988 in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, allowing the Company to expand its product range to include larger diesel generators up to 15kVA. A further expansion in 1991 saw the production being moved from Peckham to a bigger facility in Orpington, Kent.
Production operations were consolidated in 1999 when the Company acquired a 2-acre site on the Park Farm Industrial development in Wellingborough, building a 20,000 sq. feet facility with scope for expansion. Continued growth both in the UK and into export markets saw this achieved in 2003, increasing the factory size to 40,000 sq. feet and leading to the eventual closure of the Orpington branch.
Today, Stephill Generators are the UK's largest volume manufacturer of portable/mobile petrol and diesel generating sets from 2.7 to 140kVA, predominantly supplying the rental and construction sectors. The significant demands of these markets, and high expectations in terms of durability and longevity, has ensured that the product is supremely suited and the Stephill brand is synonymous with quality and reliability. As well as being the UK's premier supplier to UK hire companies, our wide and varied range of products are also suited to the outdoor events industry, utility, military and standby generator sectors. Though our products remain keenly priced in what is a competitive market, we continue to select only premium components that are worthy of the widely respected “Stephill” name.
The year 2025 marks the 40th Anniversary of Stephill Generators Ltd which has coincided with the opening of a new 10,000 sq. feet factory extension dedicated to the production of larger 1500rpm generators from 20 to 140kVA. The extended factory has provision to potentially manufacture generators up to 250kVA and possibly larger. The Company’s intention is to continually sustain growth by consolidating existing markets and increasing the scope and range of products over time, ensuring that we remain the premier supplier of high-quality UK designed and manufactured power products to the construction and rental sectors.
